This seminars task was really fun and exciting to me. We were given a seminar prepared by a fragrance specialist who was going to come in for a talk but has prepared it visually for us as the current situation has us all staying home. The warm-up task was to basically choose a fragrance and explore its elements by deeply evaluating it with the given questions. I chose the Gabrielle Chanel Essence perfume which my mum owns and loves.

For the second task, we had to create a fragrance for a zoologist. I was first a bit confused by this but then thought that this was quite an innovative yet challenging type of task to think more outside the box. The perfume company Zoologist already has this concept of taking inspiration for their scents from animals such as the chameleon, panda, and other animals which are really fun and creative in my opinion.

As we had to choose or own animal to base our own perfume story on I thought about the kind of aesthetic and mood I personally like in general and thought about something quite minimal and sophisticated, yet fresh and fun which made me finally decide to choose the zebra. I like the zebra because it obviously looks very elegant with its black and white stripes but I also thought it is a good animal to use to further explore for the scent story. To start my scent story I first collected some basic information on the zebra's location, environment, and diet.

I then picked out the most important aspects that I found were interesting and a good start point to start my image research to build a final mood board for my final scent story.

Within this mood board, I focused on the topics I researched so I made sure I incorporated the African element by adding images of the bungalow but also the little textures which reminded me of a kind of Aztec design which could be applied for the packaging. I also wanted it to be feminine and sensual yet sophisticated so I added a woman's back holding a flower and also leaves and twigs as that is part of the zebra's diet. As the zebra's diet basically just consists of plants I also wanted it to be an ethical, vegan perfume that is produced with natural ingredients with notes of bergamot, citrus, and floral notes. To enhance this board and reflecting on my critique I got for this board in the seminar I think I could also look at some woody notes and explore that type of breezy, after the storm scent which would enhance this board even more.
