Fragrance Moodboards

In this Tuesday's seminar, we were given a mini brief which was given to us as sort of an introduction to the new summative brief which everyone is a bit stressing out about, including me. However, I found this brief quite fun to do, even though we had a specific time frame and had to be careful in choosing the right images rather than just working as quickly as possible. To summarise, we had to create 3 different mood boards regarding the current fragrance market, a chosen fragrance brand of our choice, as well as a current theme in society right now.
I started off my first mood board by looking kind of away from all the designer brands fragrance lines and rather looking at how the current trends such as sustainability and minimalist design are applied onto fragrance brands and which ones seem to fulfil those kinds of topics.

For the second mood board, I had to choose one of my favourite perfume brands which is Byredo. Byredo is a Swedish brand that is known for the sleek and minimal Scandinavian perfume bottles as well as for their fashion. As this mood board had to represent the brand using images that are not the most obvious such as just using the bottles and advertisements, I tried focusing on the names of the perfumes and Swedish heritage. I chose water and a rose as two of their best selling fragrances are called "Gypsy Water" and "Rose of No Man's Land" to highlight those important scents. I also incorporated Swedish architecture by adding a traditional Swedish birdhouse sculpture made by the designer Christian Halleröd. Another feature I found was important was to add the minimalist style of Sweden with the image of the woman's back and lastly adding navy to the board to enhance the Swedish heritage once again.

The last mood board was definitely a bit rushed as there was a time frame for this but I am still quite happy with the result. This mood board evolved around the theme "Natural Rituals". I started off by looking at fragrance brands which use ethical and sustainable production methods but also collecting images that represent sustainability and an overall aesthetic that shows natural elements. The brand that gave me the most inspiration for this board is another Scandinavian brand called "Haeckels". The brand really pushes its message with being ethical and communicated it really well through its website and social media.

All in all, this task gave me a really good jump start on the new brief and made me look further and deeper into how images can communicate a brand story and idea really well.
