Lunar New Year Collections

It's the Chinese New Year! This year is the year of the rat which is connected to wealth and as rats reproduce quite rapidly it is also a symbol for high fertility. What makes me excited about this though is the designer brands launching their collections, themed towards the year of the rat. The first designer I looked at was Off White. In typical Off White style there are lots of quotation marks saying "Good luck" and the colour red is obviously used.

I am not a big Off White fan but I could see a lot of people liking these pieces, especially as presents. The next designer I looked at is Gucci. So Gucci cheated a little on this and used Mickey Mouse even though it is not a rat. I actually think this collection is quite fun and I do like the fact that they did not use rats as I really do not think rats can be made to look cute or aesthetically nice to look at, but that's just my hate for rats speaking.

Another designer who embraced the year of the rat is Marc Jacobs, one of my faves. He collaborated with a brand called Stray Rat's for this collection. What I like about these pieces is that there is no actual rat symbol or image on the design and the pieces are very casual and don't scream 'this collection is simply for the Chinese new year'. The promotional images for this collection are with real rats which I think is quite funny and seems very Marc Jacobs to me.

The last designer I have looked at is Louis Vuitton. Louis Vuitton also held back on including rat symbols which I like. The colour theme still includes the red colour and also a lot of elements of denim in it.

Overall I think that these designers all put thought into these collections. If I was able to purchase piece I would probably go for that Marc Jacobs sweater.
