On one of our last days in New York, we decided to visit The Metropolitan Museum of Art. I still had in mind that the Camp exhibition was still on but to my disappointment, it had already finished. Having come all the way there we still decided to look into any other exhibitions relating to fashion. There was one exhibition called "The Pursuit of Fashion" which is a collection of haute couture and ready to wear pieces by Sandy Schreier who has been collecting these pieces for more than half a century.

The exhibition had lots of unique pieces from the 60s which I really liked. As I did a project on the Youth-quake 1960s fashion era I was really excited to see pieces such as a version of the Mondrian dress as well as a dress Twiggy wore in a photo-shoot back in the 60s.

The highlight of the exhibition was probably the butterfly hat by Paul Poiret in collaboration with Paul Iribet which is made out of thousands of individual feathers. Seeing it in real life was fascinating as you could see the detailed work on it and all the colours were extremely vibrant as well.

Another thing I really liked about the overall display of the mannequins and how they each had an individual headpiece. It gave each garment a unique touch and made me look at the outfit in a different way which I think gives it a really exciting touch and also changes the overall aesthetic.

One other unique part about the exhibition was the accessories. There were displays of different kind of hats that were all really quirky and not really for an everyday use but I still think they were really interesting and I would love to know the thought behind each piece.
Overall I really enjoyed this rather small yet very unique exhibition even though it was quite rushed. Each piece to me had its own character and made me think about how much thought and detail must have gone into it. It is definitely worth a visit if you want to see some fashion while at The Met.
